Botswana Horseback Safari

Overview

There is nothing more exhilarating than riding through the African bush, surrounded by wildlife and spectacular scenery, especially in Botswana. The quality of the horses and equipment is first class, with guides that have enormous experience. As a general rule, riders need to be experienced and horses will be selected for you, based on the level of that experience. The accommodation is comfortable tents with private facilities.

Itinerary

DAY 1: KUJWANA CAMP
On arrival in Maun you will be met and transferred by helicopter to Kujwana Camp. After lunch, you will be given an introduction talk on safety and game viewing from horseback. This is followed by an orientation ride lasting 1–2 hours. Four nights at KUJWANA CAMP. (L, D)

DAY 2: KUJWANA CAMP
After breakfast, you will be taken on a morning game ride in the Xudum area. Return to camp for lunch and in the afternoon, explore the surrounding areas on a mokoro expedition. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: KUJWANA CAMP
This morning enjoy a ride exploring the Qwaapu area. This is a river system with a unique landscape and many game viewing opportunities. Return to the camp for lunch, where there is time for a siesta before an afternoon game drive. In the evening, explore the area on a night drive. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: KUJWANA CAMP
Today is a full day ride, moving through the floodplains and islands of the Matsebi river. Enjoy a picnic lunch followed by a siesta or swim, before continuing your ride back to Kujwana Camp in time for sunset. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: KUJWANA CAMP
Spend the morning riding the southern route, following the edge of the Matsebi River. In the afternoon, you will be taken on a game drive or boat excursion to the hippo pans. Here, enjoy sunset drinks on game viewing platforms four metres above the ground, situated in the tree canopy. Return to Kujwana Camp at sunset. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: MAUN
Early morning game ride out of Kujwana Camp if flight times permit. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for a helicopter transfer to Maun and your onward flight. (B) This itinerary may vary according to water levels and game movements. Mokoros (dugout canoes) are offered as an activity depending on water levels.

Mokolwane Camp

In the western corner of the Okavango lies Mokolwane Camp. Overlooking the Matsebi River, the quaint camp is offers elevated 5 safari tents. A full day’s ride from Kujwana, it offers the perfect respite after a day upon horseback. When ready to explore the breathtaking natural space, game drives, boating, fishing, mokoro safaris and walking are just some of the activities on offer here.

Kujwana Camp

Situated in a private concession bordering the famous Moremi Game Reserve, Kujwana Camp offers a fantastic base from which to explore the sights and sounds of the Delta on horseback. Follow the path of mesmerising elephants as you ride alongside, or dive right in as you cross flooded channels. Off the horse, enjoy other activities such as guided walks, mokoro expeditions and fishing.
