Kruger to Victoria Falls Overland

Overview

This 15-day overland safari explores the many jewels in southern Africa’s crown. Combining game drives, game walks, cultural excursions, a sunset boat cruise, and an opportunity to experience the famous Victoria Falls, this tour really does have it all. Utilising 3 – 4 star accommodation with excellent guides, you can expect an abundance of opportunities for wildlife viewing from within a collection of southern Africa’s finest parks and reserves.

Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG

On arrival, you will be met and transferred by shuttle bus to the PEERMONT METCOURT or similar for your overnight stay.

DAY 2: JOHANNESBURG – BLYDE RIVER

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Mpumalanga via the scenic Panorama Route to CASTERBRIDGE HOLLOW or similar for your overnight stay. (B)

DAY 3: BLYDE RIVER – GREATER KRUGER NP – TIMBAVATI PRIVATE RESERVE

This morning you will have time to view the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window viewpoint and Bourke’s Luck Potholes along the Panorama Route enroute to Timbavati Private Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. On arrival, you will be taken on a late afternoon game drive. Two-night stay at SHINDZELA TENTED CAMP or similar. (B, D)

DAY 4: TIMBAVATI PRIVATE RESERVE

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: TIMBAVATI PRIVATE RESERVE – GREATER KRUGER NP – LIMPOPO PROVINCE

Depart from Timbavati at sunrise and enjoy a full day game drive en route to Limpopo Province with dinner in a nearby cave on arrival. Two nights at AWELANI CAMP or similar. (B, D)

DAY 6: LIMPOPO PROVINCE

An early start this morning with a walk to view rock paintings, returning to camp for breakfast. Afterward, experience a full day cultural tour which includes a visit to a local village, tavern and school. A cultural dinner is enjoyed in the local village. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: LIMPOPO PROVINCE – MATOPOS NP

After breakfast, you will continue on to your lodge in Zimbabwe that is located on the edge of the World Heritage site of Matopos National Park. Two nights at CAMP AMALINDA or similar. (B, D)

DAY 8: MATOPOS NATIONAL PARK

Today you will be taken on a historic trek to Rhodes grave, exploring renowned caves where you can see Bushman paintings. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: MATOPOS NP – HWANGE NP

This morning you will leave Matopos and arrive in Hwange National Park early afternoon. Enjoy a late afternoon open 4×4 vehicle game drive. Two nights at IVORY LODGE or similar. (B, D)

DAY 10: HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, you will be taken on another game drive. In the afternoon you can choose to relax at the lodge or participate in an optional game drive (own expense). (B, D)

DAY 11: HWANGE NP – VICTORIA FALLS

Today you will arrive at Victoria Falls around midday. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore the falls and local area. Two nights at SPRAYVIEW HOTEL or similar. (B)

DAY 12: HWANGE NP – VICTORIA FALLS

Enjoy a day at leisure to continue exploring the area. (B)

DAY 13: VICTORIA FALLS – CHOBE RIVER – KASANE

This morning you will be transferred to Kasane and onto Chobe. Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets and abundance of wildlife and birdlife. Two nights at CHOBE SAFARI LODGE or similar. (B, D)

DAY 14: KASANE

An early morning game drive starts the day, and a sunset game viewing boat cruise on the Chobe River concludes the day. (B)

DAY 15: DEPART KASANE

After breakfast, you will be taken to Kasane Airport for your onward flight which marks the end of your tour. (B)

Chobe Safari Lodge

Chobe Safari Lodge is situated in Kasane on the banks of the Chobe River and shares a border with Chobe National Park. The lodge has recently been refurbished and offers a choice of luxury river rooms or the new safari rooms. Relax in the pool at the end of the day of enjoy a meal in the open-air restaurant.

Ivory Lodge

Ivory Lodge is situated on a private conservancy in Hwange National Park, overlooking a waterhole and is surrounded by lush greenery. A wide range of birds and animals can be seen both from the camp and on game drives. The lodge is small and intimate featuring 7 luxurious tree houses and 2 Presidential Elephant Suites set on elevated platforms.

Awelani Lodge

Situated near the Pafuri Gate of Kruger National Park and nestled amongst sandstone outcrops that hide San and and Khoi rock art is Awelani Lodge, offering self-catering chalets, bungalows and safari tents. Surrounded by the vast green bush and next to a bird hide and waterhole, this is the perfect place to discover the wonders of South Africa.

Shindzela Tented Camp

Located in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Shindzela Tented Camp provides guests with luxury safari accommodation and the opportunity to see the Big 5. 8 safari tents are decorated with natural textures and hues and include an en-suite bathroom and a private wooden deck. Enjoy relaxing around the campfire late at night, taking a dip in the pool, reading in the lounge and exploring the curio shop. There are also morning and evening game drives available, as well as walking safaris.

Casterbridge Hollow Boutique Hotel

Casterbridge Hollow Boutique Hotel is situated just outside White River in one of the most enchanting country estates in South Africa. The hotel offers 30 deluxe rooms with balconies and verandas overlooking lush gardens.
