Overview

The name Salta comes from the Aymara Indian word “sagta” meaning “the very beautiful one”. The picturesque city of Salta is a hidden gem nestled in one of the most diverse regions of Argentina. It is an area where indigenous traditions are kept alive in local villages, wonderful vineyards and in the colonial architecture of Salta.

Itinerary

DAY 1: SALTA

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay.

DAY 2: SALTA – CAFAYATE

Today you will travel through the Calchaquí Valleys, a region known for its colourful rock formations, dramatic gorges and charming Andean towns. Continue toward Cafayate, famous for its Torrontés wine and striking desert landscapes. Overnight at your HOTEL in Cafayate. (B)

DAY 3: CAFAYATE – CACHI – SALTA

This morning, continue through the Calchaquí Valley as you journey toward Cachi. Pass through lush valleys, high-altitude vineyards and the stunning landscapes of Quebrada de las Flechas. Enjoy free time to wander around the peaceful adobe town of Cachi, before travelling back to Salta via the scenic Cuesta del Obispo. Two nights at your HOTEL in Salta. (B)

DAY 4: SALTA

Today you will be exploring the heights of Salta. Travel toward San Antonio de los Cobres, Salinas Grandes, and Purmamarca, following a route parallel to the “Train to the Clouds” railway line, through the Quebrada del Toro, ascending to 4,080m (13,386 ft) above sea level. Continue across Route 40 to the stunning Salinas Grandes, and descend the scenic Cuesta de Lipán to visit Purmamarca and its famous Hill of Seven Colours, before returning to Salta. (B)

DAY 5: SALTA

Today you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
