Gorillas & Chimps Safari

Overview

This 8-day safari features Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, chimpanzee tracking in Chambura (Kyambura), Gorge and game/bird-watching in Queen Elizabeth National Park which includes a boat cruise. You may add an optional visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. There is an opportunity to do up to two gorilla treks on this safari but gorilla permits must be pre-purchased at time of booking and will be subject to availability.

Itinerary

DAY 1: ENTEBBE
On arrival at Entebbe airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight at BEST WESTERN PREMIER GARDEN HOTEL or similar. (B)

DAY 2: ENTEBBE – BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NP
This morning you will be taken to Entebbe airport for your scheduled flight to Kihihi airstrip where you will be met and transferred to your accommodation, passing local villages on your way. Two nights at BUHOMA LODGE. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NP
Today you will take an early morning trek into the forest on the slopes of the mountains in search of the mountain gorillas. Spend a precious hour with these creatures before returning to the lodge. Upon your return, enjoy a complimentary massage or explore the local area. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: BWINDI – ISHASHA, QUEEN ELIZABETH NP
This morning if you have opted for a second trek, you will again set off into the forest. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Ishasha in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will be able to visit a community project on the border of the park. In the afternoon, with time permitting, you will be taken on a game drive in search of the famous tree climbing lions. Two nights at
ISHASHA WILDERNESS CAMP. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: ISHASHA, QUEEN ELIZABETH NP

DAY 6: ISHASHA, QUEEN ELIZABETH NP
After breakfast you will drive to the Mweya sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park for a game drive and boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Two nights ELEPHANT PLAINS LODGE or similar. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: ISHASHA – MWEYA, QUEEN ELIZABETH NP
Today you will enjoy chimpanzee trekking in Chombura (Kyambura) Gorge and later, game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: QUEEN ELIZABETH NP – ENTEBBE
Enjoy an early morning game drive before being transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft transfer to Entebbe. This marks the end of your safari. (B)

Mweya Safari Lodge

Mweya Safari Lodge is perched upon a peninsula in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, surrounded by the majestic Rwenzori Mountains and offering views over the meandering Kazinga Channel. Accommodation is offered in 44 rooms, 4 cottages and 4 luxury tents. The lodge’s facilities include a pool, a restaurant and a bar. The lodge provides guests with a variety of activity options including game drives, boating on the Kazinga, birding, chimpanzee trekking, bush breakfasts, balloon safaris and cultural talks. 

Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is situated inside the southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Ntungwe River, and is an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wilderness. The ten spacious, canvas framed rooms, situated in the wooded area besides the river, are comfortably furnished. A central lounge and dining area, under a cool thatched roof, provides a comfortable environment for meals and relaxing during the day.

Hotel No. 5

Hotel No. 5 is a brand-new hotel located in Entebbe, just 10 minutes’ drive from the airport. 10 luxury rooms and 5 self-catering apartments are set amongst landscaped gardens. The hotel also boasts a swimming pool and a gym as well as a spa where guests can pamper themselves.  Hotel No. 5 provides luxury accommodation whilst still being ideally situated for enjoying Entebbe and Lake Victoria.

Buhoma Lodge

Ideally located less than 5 minutes by foot from the gorilla trekking point start, Buhoma Lodge boasts uninterrupted, scenic views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Each spacious cottage boasts a private veranda, an en-suite bathroom and an in-room safe. A family cottage is also available. After a day exploring the forest, relax in the lounge and share stories of the day with a drink from the bar.
