This trip focuses on the conservation of cheetahs. Learn about the efforts being made to protect Africa’s most endangered large cat. Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG – MZIKI PRIVATE
GAME RESERVE
Upon arrival at Johannesburg Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to MZIKI SAFARI LODGE for your two-night stay. While enjoying a welcome drink, you will receive an overview of your upcoming safari with Ben and Kahlia. (B, L, D)

DAY 2: MZIKI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Today, you will explore the Mziki Private Nature Reserve, home to four of the Big 5 – rhinos, buffaloes, elephants, and leopards. The highlight of your stay is the opportunity to view Edie, the rewilded cheetah born in Australia at Ben Britton’s Wild Cat Conservation Centre. This ground-breaking initiative marked Edie as the first Australian-born cheetah to be reintroduced to her ancestral homeland, enhancing the reserve’s biodiversity and offering you the unique opportunity to observe this magnificent
predator in her natural environment. You will join Ben in the morning and afternoon to spend time both from a vehicle and on foot visiting and observing Edie in her new home. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: MZIKI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
After a morning game drive through Mziki, you will enjoy lunch before heading to Johannesburg. Check in at the PEERMONT MONDIOR AT EMPEROR’S PALACE for your overnight stay. (B)

DAY 4: JOHANNESBURG – PHINDA PRIVATE
GAME RESERVE
Today, you will be met at your hotel and transferred to OR Tambo International Airport. From there, you will board your flight to Phinda Airstrip. Upon arrival, you will be greeted and taken to PHINDA MOUNTAIN LODGE, where you will spend the next five nights. After arriving at Phinda and settling in at the lodge, join Ben and your guides for your first drive around the reserve
followed by a special sundowner experience. (FI).

DAY 5: PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Phinda is an internationally renowned and award-winning conservation success story known for its dedicated efforts in cheetah preservation. Your safari today will focus on Phinda’s intensive conservation program for these majestic cats. Ben will explain Phinda’s role in establishing the cheetah metapopulation before heading out into the reserve in search of cheetahs and other wildlife. This day is dedicated to big cats, so special efforts will be made to spot lions, cheetahs, and leopards. (FI)

DAY 6 & 7: PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Over the next two days, you will have the opportunity to explore the reserve with morning and afternoon game drives spanning seven diverse ecosystems, ranging from rare dry sand forests to
savannahs. Guided by Ben and Kahlia, along with your Zulu trackers, you will be on the lookout for Africa’s Big Five – elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffalos, and lions. Half of the group will have a chance for a pangolin experience while the other half enjoys a game drive; then the groups will switch activities on the following day. This arrangement allows all guests to partake in this special experience. (FI)

DAY 8: PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Today, you will have the opportunity to interact closely with a rhino at Phinda Private Game Reserve as part of assisting in the conservation of this endangered species. A wildlife vet will locate and dart the rhino from a helicopter, while you and the ground crew will follow in open safari vehicles. Once darted, the veterinary team will notch the sleeping rhino’s ear for research and security monitoring, as well as insert a microchip into the horn, enabling researchers to correctly identify different rhinos on the reserve. DAY 9: PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE –
JOHANNESBURG
Today, you will be met and transferred to the Phinda Airstrip for your onward flight to OR Tambo International Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met and escorted to the departures terminal for your a connecting flight. (B)

Ben Britton, Director and Founder of the Wild Cat Conservation, is a devoted wildlife advocate with 25+ years of experience in animal husbandry and conservation. Ben’s conservation efforts have been highlighted in several documentaries through his work with National Geographic, particularly his ongoing efforts to conserve cheetah and other wild cat species in Africa. He now works closely with the Cheetah Metapopulation Project and conservation partners to rewild cheetah throughout their range states.

Kahlia Britton was born in Sydney, Australia, and spent her early years seeking out as many opportunities as possible to surround herself with animals. This love of wildlife led her to work in a variety of institutions across NSW with a range of animals. She has spent the last 7 years establishing the Wild Cat Conservation Centre with her husband.
