Overview

DEPARTING 04 MAY, 2026 Starting at Mohave Bush Camp in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, you will spend 3 days with Ben learning about wildlife conservation in Africa. You will be on foot, immersed in the African wilderness, in the heart of big cat territory! Whether it be carrying out field observations at a Spotted Hyena den, tracking animals on foot, setting up trail cameras or spending the late afternoon searching for the elusive leopard or caracal, this trip has a little bit of everything. You’ll then transfer to Mashatu Game Reserve, widely regarded as one of the best locations in Africa to view big cats with twice daily game drives to see these amazing cats up close. Ben has been visiting and working at Mashatu for over 15 years and calls it his second home. He will share his experiences with the group and provide first-hand insights into the challenges of conserving wild cats in Botswana. Mashatu is also home to elephants, giraffes, zebras and much more! The tour is capped at only 8 guests ensuring an intimate experience. Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVE JOHANNESBURG
On arrival in Johannesburg, make your own way to the INTERCONTINENTAL JOHANNESBURG O.R. TAMBO AIRPORT (located across the road as you exit the airport) for your overnight stay.(B)

DAY 2: JOHANNESBURG – NORTHERN TULI GAME RESERVE
Today you will be met and transferred by road to the Platjan Border. After clearing customs, you will be met and transferred to the MOHAVE BUSH CAMP for your three-night stay. Positioned on the banks of the dry Mohave River, the camp is well-positioned for sighting animals such as elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas and African wild cats. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: NORTHERN TULI GAME RESERVE
Rise early and depart on a walking safari in the reserve. Discover the beauty of the Botswana bush, learn how to decipher animal tracks and identify African wildlife. Later, rejoin other guests at the camp to listen to a talk by Ben, outlining the current projects and the work being done in the region to conserve and better understand African wildlife. Enjoy afternoon tea before heading out into the bush to conduct large predator field observations and set up camera traps. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: NORTHERN TULI GAME RESERVE
This morning you will set out on foot to Eagle Rock, the highest point of the reserve. Enjoy a new perspective of this captivating area, before returning to the camp where Ben hosts a talk about his adventures with National Geographic. In the afternoon, enjoy carrying out more animal observations and monitoring of brown hyenas in their den. Afterwards, collect your camera traps to see what fantastic sights you have captured.

DAY 5: NORTHERN TULI GAME RESERVE – MASHATU GAME RESERVE
After breakfast, you will be met and transferred by road to MASHATU TENTED CAMP, where you will stay for three nights. Mashatu is one of the best places to see big cats, such as lions and leopards. Upon arrival, you will have the early afternoon at leisure before joining Ben and your fellow guests for afternoon tea. Afterwards, embark on a game drive through Mashatu Game Reserve. (B, L, D)

DAYS 6 – 8: MASHATU GAME RESERVE
Over the next three days, you will be taken on morning and afternoon game drives throughout Mashatu Game Reserve. Relax in the bush, enjoying morning tea and sundowners with a view. There is also the option to enjoy a morning at one of Mashatu’s photographic hides (at additional cost), capturing photographs of the wildlife as it approaches the waterhole. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: MASHATU TENTED CAMP – MASHATU LODGE
Today you will be met and transferred to MASHATU LODGE for your two-night stay. Located close to the border of Botswana and Zimbabwe, the camp is intimate and features views of a nearby waterhole. (B, L, D)

DAY 10: MASHATU GAME RESERVE
Today is your last full day and is at your leisure. Relax poolside, explore the bush with Ben or visit the photographic hide. (B, L, D)

DAY 11: MASHATU GAME RESERVE – JOHANNESBURG
This morning you will be met at your camp and transferred to the Pont Drift border. After clearing customs, you will be met and be taken by road to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport for your onward flight. (B)

Ben Britton, Director and Founder of the Wild Cat Conservation, is a devoted wildlife advocate with 25+ years of experience in animal husbandry and conservation. Ben’s conservation efforts have been highlighted in several documentaries through his work with National Geographic, particularly his ongoing efforts to conserve cheetah and other wild cat species in Africa. He now works closely with the Cheetah Metapopulation Project and conservation partners to rewild cheetah throughout their range states.

Kahlia Britton was born in Sydney, Australia, and spent her early years seeking out as many opportunities as possible to surround herself with animals. This love of wildlife led her to work in a variety of institutions across NSW with a range of animals. She has spent the last 7 years establishing the Wild Cat Conservation Centre with her husband.
