Overview

A great way to explore India is on the Palace on Wheels, the famous luxury train of India that carries with it an understated luxury that blends in with the majestic charm and beauty of the state of Rajasthan – a land of sand dunes, regal palaces, colour, and culture. On this journey you will have the opportunityto see the best that Rajasthan has to offer – all from your “own” Palace on Wheels.

Itinerary

DAY 1: (WEDNESDAY) DELHI – JAIPUR
The journey begins at the Safdarjung Railway station in Delhi, where you will receive a warm traditional welcome before the Palace on Wheels pulls out into the night for a week-long luxury tour through Rajasthan. (D)

DAY 2: (THURSDAY) JAIPUR
Your first stop is Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, and popularly known as the “Pink City”. Here you will visit Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), and the Amber Fort where you will be taken by elephant to the gates of the Palace. Overnight train journey to Sawai Madhopur. (B, L, D)

Day 3: (FRIDAY) SAWAI MADHOPUR – CHITTORGARH
Before breakfast you will visit Ranthambore National Park. This wildlife sanctuary is considered to be one of the country’s best for observing and photographing the elusive tiger. Afterwards you will return to the train for breakfast as you head to Chittorgarh. Visit the Chittorgarh Hill Fort (including a sound and light show) before returning to the train for dinner ON-BOARD. DAY 4: (SATURDAY) UDAIPUR
Today you will visit the magnificent marble palaces of Udaipur – the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which rises from the blue waters of Lake Pichola. After breakfast on-board, you will depart on a city tour which includes a visit to the renowned City Palace and Crystal Gallery. After lunch at a five star hotel, you will continue with a boat ride on the lake, before re-boarding the train for your overnight journey to Jaisalmer. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: (SUNDAY) JAISALMER
In the heart of the Thar Desert lies Jaisalmer, where the yellow sandstone fort towers over the city. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city before lunch back on-board. You will then be taken on an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes of Sam where you will watch the sunset. Enjoy dinner and a cultural programme at a Palace hotel before your overnight journey to Jodhpur. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: (MONDAY) JODHPUR
This morning you will arrive in Jodhpur. It is the second largest city of Rajasthan – primarily known for its rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort. Here you will have the opportunity to view the city’s sights and shop for exquisite handicrafts. After lunch at a city hotel, you will return to the train for your journey to Bharatpur. (B, L, D)

DAY 7: (TUESDAY) BHARATPUR – AGRA
In the morning you will arrive in Bharatpur. After breakfast, visit the world famous bird sanctuary; Keoladeo Ghana National Park. This World Heritage Centre is a nesting place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water Fowl and other species of birds. You will then depart for Agra where you will visit the Taj Mahal after lunch at a Palace hotel. Then, re-board the train for your final OVERNIGHT journey to Delhi. (B, L, D)

DAY 8: (WEDNESDAY) DELHI
On arrival at Delhi Safdarjung Railway station you will have a final breakfast on-board before disembarking. (B)
