Overview

India is well known for its ancient heritage and culture. This centuries–old nation is renowned for its languages, ancient customs, the architecture of its forts, palaces and monuments, as well as its historical sites. This 12-day Heritage India tour gives you a wonderful snapshot of some of the most colourful and interesting areas of this exciting and beautiful country.

Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVE DELHI

On arrival at Delhi Airport, you will be met and transferred to your HOTEL in Delhi for your two-night stay.

DAY 2: DELHI

Today you will be taken on a full day tour of Old and New Delhi, drive past the Red Fort, visit Jama Masjid, the Qutab Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Presidential House, Parliament House and the India Gate. (B)

DAY 3: DELHI – VARANASI

After breakfast you will be transferred to Delhi airport to board your onward flight to Varanasi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, you will be taken to the banks of the river Ganges to witness the Ganga Aarti ceremony. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel. Two nights at your HOTEL. (B)

DAY 4: VARANASI

This morning, you will enjoy a boat ride on the River Ganges at sunrise. Afterwards, visit the Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The most sacred shrine in the city, the original temple was destroyed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb and restored in the 18th century. In the afternoon, you will visit Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining nirvana. (B)

DAY 5: VARANASI – KHAJURAHO – PANNA

This morning you will be transferred to Varanasi airport to board your flight to Khajuraho. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your HOTEL in Panna for your two-night stay. (B)

DAY 6: PANNA

Today you will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives in Panna National Park. Located in the Panna and Chhatarpur districts, this park is home to a variety of wildlife such as tiger, chital, chinkara and sloth bear. It also features an array of birdlife including the Barheaded Goose, honey buzzard and king vulture. (B)

DAY 7: PANNA – KHAJURAHO

After breakfast you will be transferred by road to Khajuraho. On arrival you will be taken on a tour of the Khajuraho Temple Complex. Once the capital of the Chandela Rajputs, these temples were built over the span of one hundred years between 950 and 1050 CE and depict a variety of Indian architectural styles. At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your HOTEL for an overnight stay. (B)

DAY 8: KHAJURAHO – JHANSI – AGRA

This morning you will be transferred to Jhansi railway station to board a train to Agra. Upon arrival in Agra you will be met and transferred to your HOTEL for your two-night stay. (B)

DAY 9: AGRA

Early this morning, at sunrise, you will visit the exquisite Taj Mahal, the most famous of all Mughal monuments. After returning to your hotel for breakfast you will visit the Agra Fort and the tomb Itimad–ud– Daulah. The evening will be at leisure. (B)

DAY 10: AGRA – JAIPUR

After breakfast you will be transferred to Jaipur. En route you will visit Fatehpur Sikri, a palace city built by Mughal emperor Akbar in 1570. Now a ghost city, it is a fine fusion of Mughal, Indian and Persian architecture. Afterwards, continue to Jaipur where you will check in to your HOTEL for your two-night stay. (B)

DAY 11: JAIPUR

This morning you will visit the Amer Fort, where a jeep will take you up to this impressive fortress. Afterwards, you will be taken on a tour of the city, visiting the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. The evening will be at leisure. (B)

DAY 12: DEPART DELHI

After breakfast, you will be met and transferred by vehicle to Delhi Airport. This marks the end of your tour. (B)
