With over 35 years of experience in not just meeting, but blowing away the expectations of curious travellers, Rovos Rail is a renowned name within South African tourism, and African tourism as a whole. Let's dive into how Rovos services first start operating, and what you can expect from one of Africa's most trusted luxury travel operators.
Born from a passion and respect for vintage locomotives, Rovos Rail has been operating for 30 years, with its first successful Pretoria–Cape Town run occurring in 1989. The passion project of Rohan Vos, Rovos Rail has emerged triumphantly from humble beginnings. With the support of his wife, Vos went about purchasing the first Rovos coaches in 1985. Over the years, Vos’ family holidays would come to be centred on seeking out hidden gems in old rail yards to add to the Rovos collection.
With their first run only transporting four passengers, Rovos Rail has evolved over the past 30 years into a renowned train operator. Step back in time as you board these lovingly restored trains.
