Kerala..

What makes Kerala the most idyllic state in India? Read on and it won’t be long before Kerala is at the top of your bucket list…

Backwater cruises

A true Kerala experience lies within its backwaters.  Perhaps the most popular attraction of “God’s Own Country”, the Kerala backwaters offer an escape to paradise.

Take a cruise on the luxury Kettuvallam houseboats; unique to Kerala, these traditional thatched roof boats were originally used to ship rice, spices and other goods between the backwaters and Cochin port. The backwaters feature a beautiful system of interconnected lakes, inlets, waterways and channels. There’s truly no experience like floating along the backwaters and witnessing such stunning scenery along the way.

Wildlife

While it may seem as though Kerala is all about the scenery, this beautiful state is also home to some incredible wildlife. With more than 25 National Parks and sanctuaries, there are plenty of opportunities to witness the best of Kerala’s wildlife. From the elusive Bengal tiger and the Asian Elephant to migratory birds and reptiles, Kerala has something for everyone.

Ayurveda Treatments

The home of Ayurveda, Kerala is the place to go if you’re looking for an authentic, traditional Ayurvedic treatment. Ayurveda is an ancient form of traditional medicine focusing on a holistic approach to health and well-being. Ayur means life and veda means science or knowledge, fitting perfectly with the principles of the treatment.

A common misconception is that Ayurveda consists only of a massage. However, an Ayurvedic treatment is so much more. Traditionally it’s a whole-body healing experience based on the belief that a balance between your body, mind and spirit ensures health and wellness. Typically, Ayurveda consists of massage therapy, a fairly strict diet, rest as well as exercise. However, of course as a traveller the stricter regiments are left out.

Beaches

Kerala is renowned for its gorgeous beaches spanning across the Arabian coast. With golden sands, tall palm trees and warm Arabian Sea waters, it really is paradise. The list of Kerala’s best beaches is extensive including Kovalam, Varkala, Chowara, Chavakkad, Nattika, Cherai as well as Kizhunna, Poovar and so many more.

Sit back and relax or engage in the water sports on offer including parasailing, diving and boating. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful escape or an exciting adventure, Kerala’s beaches offer exactly what you’re looking for.

Hill Stations

While the backwaters and beaches are what Kerala’s most well known for, there’s still plenty more on offer in this incredible state. The hill stations are some of the most picturesque in the world. The most popular of them is Munnar. Situated 1600m above sea level, Munnar boasts rolling hills, dotted with quaint towns, stunning waterfalls, sprawling tea plantations and scenic valleys.

Spend your days exploring the plantations and learning about the process of making tea at the Tea museum as well as trekking through forests to gorgeous waterfalls. Munnar has lots of flora and fauna and is home to Neelakurinji; a flower that paints the hills purple and blue once every twelve years. It’s due to bloom next in August 2018.

Kerala truly is the most picturesque state in South India. Offering almost 600km of beautiful Arabian Sea coastline, a system of emerald backwaters and spice- and tea-covered hills. Kerala is an escape away from the buzzing cities, and offers a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.  So, what are you waiting for, start planning your escape to paradise.
