Polar Swim
We all know that the waters of Antarctica are cold, but just how cold are they really? Unfortunately, there’s only one way to find out… Many ships offer the chance to experience a “polar plunge” which is just that– a brief dip in the Antarctic waters. Lasting bare moments (it is dangerous to be submerged for too long), this truly is a once in a lifetime experience.
Camping Under the Stars
Leave the creature comforts of the ship behind for one night for an experience you will never forget. Spend the night on the ice, enjoying the stunning views of the glaciers and mountains. You may also be lucky enough to encounter some wildlife. If you’re concerned about staying warm or being able to sleep, don’t worry– you’ll probably spend most of the evening admiring your incredible surroundings!
Kayaking
One of the best ways to experience Antarctica, kayaking gets you up close and personal with the natural landscape. There’s nothing better than cruising through still waters and between icebergs as you explore this frozen world. Explore more than just the exquisite seas– kayaking is one of the best ways to interact with the wildlife of Antarctica. It is not uncommon to have seals or penguins swim beside you, or even spot humpback whales nearby…
Skiing
If you’re a true bucket list adventurer, this is one for you! A truly incredible experience, Antarctica is seen as one of the “final frontiers” for die-hard skiers. Forget chairlifts, accommodation and heli-skiing, this is true backcountry skiing. If you’ve always dreamt of escaping the hustle and bustle of the ski resorts and enjoying an off-piste adventure, nothing beats Antarctica!
Scuba Diving
Under the surface of the Antarctic waters is a whole other world waiting to be discovered… Dive amongst stunning blue-white icebergs; swim with inquisitive marine life and beside giant glaciers. A journey only for experienced divers, scuba diving in Antarctic waters offers a unique and exciting challenge. Many cruises offer diving as an activity, however there are specialised diving itineraries also available.
