Accommodation Spotlight: Elewana Loisaba, Lodo Springs

An idyllic safari experience, Elewana Loisaba Lodo Springs is where ultimate exclusivity and luxury intertwines. Eight spacious tented suites overlook the sweeping plains, with sights of the majestic Mt. Kenya in the distance. It is these vast plains that are home to the rich wildlife that is one of northern Kenya’s greatest drawcards. Loisaba Conservancy, on which the camp is situated, hosts one of the most stable lion populations, as well as several critically endangered species such as the cheetah, wild dog, leopard and Grevy’s zebra. For those seeking a private and unique safari experience, with the chance to sight rare and unusual wildlife, Elewana Loisaba is the perfect accommodation.

Here is one family’s experience…

Our experience at Elewana Loisaba and the service we enjoyed was truly phenomenal. On arriving, we were served the most magnificently coloured hot pink cactus juice as a welcome drink. What a way to start our stay. Absolutely delicious!

Then we were guided to our tented room with our own personal ‘Guest Ambassador’ and could not believe what we were seeing. Our accommodation was a luxury tent, the likes of which we’d never seen before, featuring an infinity pool with 180-degree views of the valley below. It was truly out of this world. An added bonus: the kids avoided freaking out when told they had full Wi-Fi, there, in middle of the African wilderness. Everyone was happy with that.

Then we joined the other guests for our first meal and get to meet Barnibus, our own dedicated waiter for the next two days. Affectionately known as ‘B’, he was a source of inspiration to our kids as he explained his love of serving and making guests feel special. He was amazing.

The food was absolutely incredible, the equal of any of the best restaurants we’d ever experienced in Australia. Plus, we were dining in the most sublime location we’d ever eaten at. What a treat. The lodge managers made a special point of saying hi each day at lunch and made us feel especially welcome.

Then the highlight of the stay; the game drives. We had our own personal guide, John, who was incredibly knowledgeable. He had grown up in the area and it was as if he was showing us his backyard. He was tenacious and wanted to make sure we had an incredible game drive experience. We always felt we were in safe hands as we tracked down a pride of lions and an elusive leopard. On the last night, we stopped for a sundowner and he shared some adventurous stories of his life in Africa.

Staying at Elewana Loisaba, nothing was too much trouble and the staff were happy to facilitate any of the many activities on offer. We chose to visit nearby Samburu and meet the local people in their village, which we loved, but you could choose from several other activities.

Overall, location, food, staff, an absolute 5 star rating - if we could give more, we would! Thank you to the entire team for an extraordinary experience, one we will never forget.
